Legal Residency in Uruguay

LEGAL DEFINITIVE RESIDENCY
Applicant can start through the “fast filing” process. Requirements:

  • - Passport-sized photo (1)
  • - Passport/ID used at moment of arrival to the country
  • - Revalidated Immunization Certificate (Valid Tetanus and MMR – Measles, Mumps and Rubella for adults + BCG, HB-DPT-Hib, Polio, MMR, Chicken pox, Pneumococcal, Hepatitis Type A, DPAT, DT for children).


The following documents will be added later:
- Birth Certificate apostilled/legalized.
- Marriage Certificate apostilled/legalized, if applicable.
- Proof of Income (POI): a notarized income certificate showing applicant’s monthly income and the position held at applicant’s job.
- Police Clearance Records from the country of origin and the countries (if different) where the applicant has lived on for the last 5 years, apostilled/legalized.
- Health Card (we will schedule an appointment for the applicant)
Legal definitive Residency can be granted in a no-longer-than 18 months’ period.

Benefits: Applicant can send a container with all his/her belongings exempting taxes.
Applicant can obtain a provisional ID card (“cédula”) the same day he/she has filed for residency. It will be valid for 1 year or 2 depending if Applicant has brought his/her birth certificate apostilled/legalized when starting the process.


PERMANENT RESIDENCY FOR NATIONALS FROM MERCOSUR
Requirements:

  • - Passport/ID used at moment of arrival to the country
  • - Police Clearance Records from the country or countries where the applicant has lived on for the last 5 years, apostilled/legalized.
  • - Birth Certificate apostilled/legalized.
  • - Revalidated Immunization Certificate (Valid Tetanus and MMR – Measles, Mumps and Rubella for adults + BCG, HB-DPT-Hib, Polio, MMR, Chicken pox, Pneumococcal, Hepatitis Type A, DPAT, DT for children).


POI IS NOT REQUIRED.
It is granted in a 30 to 40 working days period. Applicant can obtain a provisional ID card (“cédula”) while the permanent residency is granted.

Benefits: it’s a permanent residency status with which the applicant obtains a 3-year valid ID card (“cédula”) that can be renewed automatically.
