Uruguay is a small country with a population of 3.4 million people. We are a peaceful country with strong civil rights foundations based on mandatory and free education for all, equal and transparent access to information and job opportunities. We hold a strong feeling of keeping life as simple as possible, stress free from the hectic world outside our borders.
Much known by football (soccer) around the world, Uruguay has much more to offer. With a 500-kilometer-long coast line plenty of great sandy beaches and seaside resorts, life is calm and secure. With vast and virgin lands for cattle and agriculture, Uruguay is open to foreign investment that can boost its potential from farmland to real estate, IT, services and products.
It is a peaceful country with great sense of service and respect. We hold a European allure in South America with uncrowded places where traffic jams are barely seen (an if we do, they last 5 minutes’ tops). You will find good dining, plenty of spare time activities, mild weather, affordable everyday lifestyle, an open-minded secular people, wonderful places to visit, tasty wines and beautiful scenic vineyards, an almost empty countryside, unique music and carnival, healthy and natural food. A country where raising your children with quality of life, security and fair access to opportunities is still possible.
Uruguay is a country where you can still seat down at one of the many free and open parks such as Parque Rodó in Montevideo, the capital city, and be and feel alone for a substantial time, away from noise pollution and crowds. You can enjoy the time go by, stress free. Enjoy the mild weather, while eating churros with “dulce de leche” (one of Uruguay’s best sweets); go to museums and have access to cultural activities for free or exercise on our 22-kilometer-long Rambla along the coastline.
Our suggestion, of course, would be for you to come to the country at least once before you choose to stay for good. Visit Colonia del Sacramento declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 1995, spend some time in Montevideo, appreciate Punta del Este regarded as the best seaside resort in South America, fall in love with Rocha and the giant dunes of Cabo Polonio, do some horseback riding around Lavalleja and its stone hills, enjoy all our countryside.
The best time to come would be from October to April, our Spring, Summer and Fall seasons. When you come, make sure you check out our airport, considered amongst the bests in the world. The colors, the skies, the sunsets, the beaches are worth your time. We assure you. The balanced and affordable life you have imagined is just a plane away. We’ve compiled some news, essays and videos about Uruguay for your reading and viewing pleasure. We hope these can shed light on your curiosity towards Uruguay and help you making the decision to come and stay.
Enjoy!
