Uruguayan ID

1. When you file your residency application, the NMO or Foreign Affairs Ministry (depending on which office applies to your request based on your nationality) issues a document that enables you to have your temporary Uruguayan identity card, called “cédula de identidad” issued. It takes a week to be ready for pick-up at the National Civil Identification Office. We will escort you all along the way to get your National ID card issued.
THE “FAST FILING” SYSTEM: GET YOUR ID (CEDULA DE IDENTIDAD) ONLY WITH YOUR PASSPORT

2. Following this system, the applicant can file for permanent residency at the National Migration Office simply with the passport and a photograph. That same day, he/she can obtain his/her first “cédula” as a temporary resident which can be renewed a year later. If the applicant brings the apostilled birth certificate, then the first ID is valid for two years. It takes a week to be ready for pick-up at the National Civil Identification Office. We will escort you all along the way to get your National ID card issued.
